Generosity Challenge: Day 6

Welcome to Day 6 of the Generosity Challenge!

I would LOVE to hear from you! What have been your thoughts so far? What steps have you taken? How has God challenged you?

Let's jump into the verses for today!

“This is the kind of fasting I want: Free those who are wrongly imprisoned; lighten the burden of those who work for you. Let the oppressed go free, and remove the chains that bind people. Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.” (Isaiah 58:6–7)

Do you want to know how you can have the ride of your life? Start giving extravagantly! When you start surrendering to the fact that God owns every bit that you possess, you will begin to release the hold you had on “your” possessions. What a relief to do so!

I’ve talked about financial freedom. There are all kinds of freedom that come with giving--freedom for yourself and freedom for the people around you. That is demonstrated by the passage in Isaiah. When you stop letting yourself be tied to the things in your life, that is when you will see the ties fall away!

I recently heard someone say that the most radical form of giving he could think of was a man who had given as speech at an important event and said that he and his family lived on 10% and gave away 90%. First, I want to say that is an incredible move! Yes! Praise the Lord. What saddened me though was the distance of that person. My friend who told the story had never met the speaker. What’s more, he could did not mention any other stories of generosity that had surprised him. Just that one.

My friend, be the one who gives people a story that will cause others to praise God. Be the friend whom people personally know. Be the one who closes the gap from the distant stage to living room. Choose to allow God to guide you so that others may act by your example.

I most definitely do not mean any of this as an act of pride. You should always show humility in your giving. However, it seems that there are too few examples of radical generosity.

I want to encourage you to be the one to live in FREEDOM and to bring others along with you.

- Pray for a way that you humbly be a catalyst for change in your community.

- Ask God to show you ways that this can spread. Continue to ask for opportunities for personal generosity as well.
