10 Ways to Be More Considerate when Visiting Disney

If you are anything like us, you really don’t like to unknowingly be the annoying one. Really, no one wants to be that! Yet, how do you avoid it if you don’t know you’re doing it? More so, how do you not be that person if you are so focused on just getting from point A to point B in your day’s plan?

Welp. We gotcha, friend! We know exactly how you feel and we want to help you out with some of those common tendencies that people have within the parks, even if by accident!

  1. Keep Your Patience Handy

We can’t stress this one enough! Many guests don’t realize the toll that much walking, the long hours, the hot temperatures, and the crowds can put on people. In a normal situation, we have the highest desires to treat people kindly and with grace, but in these situations, that tolerance can drain quickly. This is where we remind ourselves to pull out that patience and have it at the ready for those unexpected and frustrating situations. It could completely change the outcome of your day!

2. Try Not to Stop in the Middle of the Walkway

It happens all the time. You round the corner from the entrance tunnels and onto Main Street U.S.A. and can hit smack-dab with that stunning castle view. Of course, you have to stop and take a picture! Yet, that’s the exact moment that another guests runs right into you becuase they didn’t know you were going to stop so abruptly. The same happens when we suddenly remember to check our fastpass times or the map right in the middle of walking. It doesn’t take much longer to simply step to the side in order to allow others their walkway while we take a moment to the side.

3. Don’t Spoil the Magic

You’re on Rise of the Resistance… Yourself and the other rebels within your group have been ushered into the ship at the very beginning. You’re being transported to the rebel base, and then… Someone blurts out exactly what is going to happen next in the ride. You hadn’t even ridden it before now and they went and spoiled the magic for you! No one appreciates that person. So, we emplore you not to also be that person. If you have something that needs to be said, whisper it to your buddy. Try your best not to blurt it to the group. You will be so appreciated for doing so! (Or rather, NOT doing so.)

4. Keep the Dark Rides Dark

There’s no flash photography within those rides for a reason. Everything within these dark rides are stylized for you to enjoy the magic in a particular setting—the dark. Lights and bright camera screens shine a light on areas that the imagineers did not intend guests to see. So, keep the rides dark as you vneture through them by keep that flash off.

5. Try Not to Hold a Table at Quick Service

Often times the areas in quick service restaurants can feel a bit crowded, which fuels our desire to find a table and kind of perch there for a bit while having someone else order. Here’s the thing though: Disney knows its numbers. They know how many people they can erve and seat in a certain amount of time. A family could sit, eat, and leave in the time that you or I hold that table while someone else orders and brings the food back. So, do your best to refrain from holding that seat and let another family sit there while you order.

6. Leave a Note or Tip for Housekeeping

Many of us don’t get to experience the inner workings of housekeeping. The attention to detail and high standards those cast members have is phenomenal and not to be overlooked. I can tell you right now that I could not do the quality of work they do in the amount of time that they do it. This is why we recommend leaving that note or tip for them just to brighten their day and show them they do not go unnoticed.

7. Offer to Take Photos

This one may not be the best in times of a pandemic, but if the situation allows for it we always recommend keeping an eye out to help groups in this way. We’ve all seen the groups getting close together and struggling to get everyone in a selfie shot. Just take a second to offer to take their photo! It will go a long way and make their trip a bit more magical.

8. Don’t Ask for Extras

Disney and its cast members are experts in adding a bit of magical pixie dust to your vacation. Sometimes people will take advantage of this and outright ask where their free meal is or free upgrade. We can tell you right now that asking for this does not put you at a great start. Trust the cast members. Trust that they are watching and are equipped to help you in the best ways.

9. Be Ready at Security Checkpoints

Do your best to be prepared when going through secuirty checkpoints or even fastpass checkpoints. Have your magic band at the ready. Pull out whatever is in your bag that you know security will want to inspect. It helps keep the line moving for other guests behind you and also just helps you get to your destination even more quickly!

10. Listen to the Cast Members

Remember that Disney’s goal is for you to have a magical time within their parks. They are not out to ruin your vacation; rather; they want to ensure that you want to return in the future! Plenty of times, guests will jump to the conclusion that cast members are trying to make it hard on them or are not considering their desires. On the contrary, cast members are hyper aware of how you are feeling and what might make guests upset. Still, their highest priority is the safety of guests. Above all, they want to keep you safe. Keep this in mind the next time that a ride shuts down just as you get to the end of the queue. They want you to have a wonderful experience while also keeping you safe.
